A shorter week this time, so a bit less on it. The theme this time turned out to be eldritch and horror transformer fic! I didn’t set out with it in mind, but here we are.

Oddity by [archiveofourown.org profile] ghostwriter00797. Transformers Rescue Bots, Gen, Rated T, No Warnings Apply, Eldritch Horror, ~2k.
An interesting take on the everybody-loves-Cody trope, which is taken to its natural, eldritch conclusion.

meet cute by [archiveofourown.org profile] MagicalSpaceDragon. IDW 1, Deadlock/Hot Rod, Rated T, No Warnings Apply, Eldritch Horror, ~0.5k.
An eldritch Deadlock meets Hot Rod, who is smitten right away.

The Tridentarii by [archiveofourown.org profile] rnanqo. TLT, Coronabeth & Ianthe, Rated T, No Warnings Apply, Canon-typical violence, ~6.5k.
A canon-compliant work! In this, Coronabeth and Ianthe record a gossip style podcast while in Canaan House. I enjoyed both the funny start with the outsider pov as well as the turn to dread when the end of the book happens. It also comes with an audio version, right from the creator.

Face The Past by [archiveofourown.org profile] AltraViolet. IDW 1, Mirage/Skywarp, Mirage & Flatline, Rated T, No Archive Warnings Apply, Past Non-Con, Genocide mentions, Memory loss, ~147k.
Part of a series, I’m reccing the main work here. Plotwise, Mirage, who has a face made from glass, is trying to get a replacement after it was shattered, while dealing with old memories resurfacing. At the core, this is a casefic about both Mirage’s treatment and uses this scaffolding to explore themes of identity, Autobots using mnemosurgery in the war, the logical conclusions of the Grindcore camps, religion and cults and much more.
The strongest part for me was the relationship between Mirage & Flatline who both negotiate their past and current identities of Autobot and Decepticon, as well as the meaning of these post-war. How do normal cybertronians deal with the resulting peace when both factions have done horrible things? These topics also come up in the Mirage/Sywarp relationship, which is handled reasonably well. Skywarp still did horrible things during the war (as did, of course, Mirage) and even with context not given a free pass. I found some of the charactersiation of Mirage and Skywarp pre-war a bit too different, but the author also introduced many plausible sources for the changes in character.

Do Not Destroy It by [archiveofourown.org profile] AltraViolet. MTMTE, Gen, Rated T, Chose Not To Warn, ~7k.
A wonderful horror one-shot with some canon divergence. Rodimus wakes up early from hibernation after the holiday special due to emergency alerts. An eldritch entity is on board. Trying to help on the comm is Prowl, who insists that the entity is not harmed. This fic was filled with suspense and genuine horror. The reveal of the thing is a gutpuncher. If you like horror, I can’t recommend this more.

Ornament by [archiveofourown.org profile] DesdemonaKaylose. IDW 1, Megatron/Rung, Rated M, Chose Not To Warn, ~8k.
A pre-revolution au wherein Megatron meets Rung as a possession of a senator at a party. Includes worldbuilding about awful functionists that are really well thought through and Rung speaking casually about horrible things. The Megatron/Rung is mostly attraction thankfully - not that I don’t like the sex, but it would be at odds with the tone of the fic.

Just a little wicked by [archiveofourown.org profile] Mercyisnotasignofweakness. TF, Megatron/Starscream, Rated M, No Warnings Apply, ~10k.
A work produced for the delightful Megastar week that is going on. Starscream is, as usually, trying to murder Megatron, only to hit a snare of his own making. Seducing Megatron succeeds too much, since Starscream is equally seduced in return. The rest of the fic centers on Starscream trying to escape with his dignity intact.

Burdens of the old by [archiveofourown.org profile] Zombieheroine. TFP, Megatron/Optimus, Rated G, No Warnings Apply, ~4k.
Great fic that looks into the far future, with MegOP as an established ancient couple that goes on their own way but meets up when they miss each other. It is at once very sweet, in a subtle way: their bond is established so they are fine with going on their own ventures for a while, yet reuniting stays special. It is also a fic about grieving, because they are both incredibly old and more durable than younger bots around. The result is a great balance of both themes, soothing the hurt.
