I finished Book of Boba Fett last week and it's flawed but left me overall happy. I think most people agree that the pacing and dialogue as well the overall craft in the series could have been done better. No two ways around it. Enter your cut contents here. The flashbacks mostly retread ground the more hardcore fans already knew, it sucked to have the Tuskens murdered again and Boba was upstaged by Din in the later half. The mixed feelings are understandable.

However, there are many details I enjoyed! Boba being a goober was delightful. He is so dorky when he tries to explain something. Stilted dialogue can just as well mean awkward social skills and I hope fandom carves that option wide open. Boba and animals was the thing I needed. The cute animal scenes!!! Ahhhh my heart. I love the freaky Bantha, even as it licked its lips and the Rancor. <3<3<3<3 The mods might be cheesy, but they are also extremely dad instincts. Love that for him.

People were kind of pissed at Luke making Grogu chose I hear? I didn't read it that way. First off, it's clearly playing off a Chinese (& Japanese and wider East Asian) tradition where babies are presented with common objects and whichever they "chose", aka grab first, is an auspices for their future path in life. But... these are not binding and that's how I interpreted the choice Luke laid out. It's more about asking Grogu what he wants to focus on for now and it's important since Grogu will likely outlive Din and Luke. I also didn't see it as him being prohibited from picking up the training again in the future. For now he has enough control in daily life not endanger himself or others. Of course, not every Star Wars fan will have as much knowledge about East Asian culture to view it in that light, so there might be things being misinterpreted.

Best thing for me was the BobaDin content however! I do like other options like DinLuke or DinCobb, but at least textually this cemented BobaDin as close friends for me. They help each other out! On the house! No questions asked, just backing each other up. Din is depressed enough from being cut-off from his family willing to go so far to die in battle for Boba.

Boba clearly isn't the best at anything paperwork related or managing things, but his priorities are in order. ;___; He is out there making his own found family with Fennec, Din, all the Mod kids, Tuskens and a family rancor. I am extremely soft for this and the other trope he represents: Bad dude tries to redeem himself, somewhat. That emotional core keeps a series that is at times cheesy and bad still standing.

And finally, a link to a wonderful discussion about Digital Blackface. I find this strikes a good middle ground, explaining why it is bad, but also goes into linking memes and the concept of fungibility from the context of Black studies.
