Weekly Fanwork Recs #24
May. 12th, 2021 07:06 pmA bit late, but on it now. Nothing major this week except some peaking into Clone Wars, which was mostly underwhelming for me. But Voiceteam is going on and many things are happening there, as I understand it.
Conservation, Fish Finder and Cose by
fascinationex . IDW, Simpatico, Rated G/T, No Warnings Apply, ~9.5k together.
More seal mermaid au! This one is getting new entries fast. Fish Finder and Cose are adorable - Perceptor helps Brainstorm out of a net and the shelters with him in during a storm. Very round, very fluffy seal mermaid! It’s awesome. Conservation is the first interview of Brainstorm on film and Perceptor’s efforts to have him classified as worthy of protection. It doesn’t go well. :(

Gilraina, dramaturgical adaption by
carboncopies. Cyberverse, Megatron & Optimus, Rated T, No Warnings Apply, ~4 min.
This is a truly inspired fanwork, I don’t know how to describe it. Carboncopies takes the podfic by Gilraina and acts out/illustrates the text with a home build paper theater? That’s the closest I can get. It’s absolutely charming, the drawings are hilarious and even the simple dramaturgical effects are precious. Idk. It’s brilliant, do watch it if you can.

Tipsy_Kitty. Leverage, Eliot/Hardison/Parker, Rated T, No Warnings Apply, ~20 min.
Who doesn’t at least like a good Leverage fic? In this, Eliot’s formerly secret knitting skills help them infiltrate a knitting circle. It’s delightful and I wholely recommend it even if you don’t know Leverage but do fibercrafts. Lovely multi-voice reading throughout.
Through A Mirror Darkly Series by
dogmatix and
norcumi. Star Wars EU Novels, Obi-Wan Kenobi & Qui-Gon Jinn, Rated T, No Warnings Apply, Graphic Depictions of Violence, Chose Not To Warn, ~40k.
Dogmatix is a name I occasionally see around and know that I will likely get solid fic. Following the canon of the Jedi Apprentice EU novels closely, this verse Obi-Wan becomes Qui-Gon’s student too - only that Qui-Gon is a Sith hiding as a Jedi Master. He is mostly there, trying to help them and marinating in guilt, as one does. I enjoyed this take on Siths not necessarily being bad while not villainising Jedi as persons. The best pay-off is the installment where Obi-Wan tells a friend of Qui-Gon and getting to see the pnic happening. Except the last story all are finished, but some of the overarching plots are likely not getting tied up since it was last changed in 2017.

godoflaundrybaskets. TMA, Jon Sims/Martin Blackwood, Rated G, No Warnings Apply, ~22 min.
Post-200, Jon and Martin go to couples therapy to talk about their issues. This is both hilarious, because they have to use the weirdest metapher to talk about their fight, and sweet, since the therapist can see how in love they are and that they are committed to try. Also making Jon Sims, The Archivist, share feelings is golden.

litrapod. SW The Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi & Anikin Skywalker, Anikin Skywalker/Padme Amidala, Rated T, Chose Not To Warn, ~2 h 55 min.
Another story of secretly-a-Sith Obi-Wan and Anikin, however this time it’s so secret they don’t even know themselves. Naturally, getting chatted up by an Old Sith Temple Guardian is a surprise. This neatly segues into a Fix-It fic with some humour of Jedi being very uncomfortable with friendly Sith things. I enjoyed the look at Sith philosphies through the POV of the old Sith spirit who had an attitude best summed up as “Sith these days!”.

Peasina. Old Town Road - Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus (Music Video), Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus, Rated G, No Warnings Apply, ~6 min.
This is based on the extended cut of the music video, but can easily stand for itself. Somehow manages to pack a ton of world building in under 1k. Baffling yet glorious ride, with the steady narration of Peasina to guide you along the trail.
Risk-Reward Factor by
ApatheticRobots. G1, Jazz/Soundwave, Rated T, No Warnings Apply, ~7k.
Jazzwave is a pairing not written nearly enough, I say. Soundwave gets a message with a soundfile attached and starts talking about music anonymously with the other. It’s fluffy, Soundwave works futily to have plausible deniability, the music descriptions are awesome even without providing concrete tracks.
[Podfic] M is for Murder written by

quietnight. MCU, Stucky, Rated M, No Warnings Apply, Crack, 30 min.
Post-CATWS, Bucky is in hiding and needs money. Eventually, he decides to offer commissions for murder aka. assassinations on tumblr. That post goes viral, of course. I don’t know what else I can add to this wonderful crack idea. I would 100% believe someone has already tried to offer murder for cash via tumblr, only this time it’s a professional. Also the murder rates are really undercutting, since of course Bucky in true fashion doesn’t ask for enough money in commissions.
