I must have missed this one when all the yuletide and winter fic came out! Everyone wakes up with amnesia on the Nemesis, trying to figure out how they got there even as the characters fall back into old roles. Of course Megatron and Optimus end up making out before it gets reversed.

I saw this cute au back when it was just being brainstormed on twitter! The concept: very goth Gabriel frequently has to give directions to his neighbour’s house. All these customers are looking for a witch and Gabriel fits the aesthetic better than Jack, who doesn’t have a single somber bone I believe. And of course there is pining, wonderful food and cute magic. W4nderingStar writes descriptions that give readers a cinematic experience full of depth without ever straying into purple. And of course another big bow towards Petitecreme who illustrated one scene as a comic. Wonderful artist, with great imagination, packing all these details in rich backgrounds, populating the picture with drool-worthy humans, giving them amazing expressions… Their art is a dream.

More comedic genius from Spoon, this time the inciting conflict/pain-in-the-ass problem happens thanks to an over-sexualised version of Starscream being featured in an advertising campaign. Megatron, rightfully fearing consequences, tries to keep it secret from him. Spoon takes it from here.

Drift has an accident after which he wakes up in the med bay and has problems with sound. Short and sweet, this explicitly falls under disabled robots/mechs. No one is magically cured either! The author is HoH and deals with this condition - this time in the honored tradition of projecting hard on your favourite characters.

An older fic I haven’t recced yet as well. Megatron goes alone to make his appeal for Primacy in front of the council. He has a nice chat with a secretary/archivist on the way. What he doesn’t know, of course, is: the council isn’t who he needs to convince. Mostly cute with some fairy tale elements - I could easily see this as a shoujo manga plot.

Post-movie, Captain Miller is alone with the Event Horizon. Pretty close in tone to the movie, they end up talking as Miller dies again and again.

the life awake, whole by

I’m not 100% sure I haven’t recced this yet, but if I did, it certainly does deserve to be! Trapped on Cybertron after an ancient defense system activated, Optimus decides to work together with an injured Soundwave to shut off the missile system. The other Autobots with him aren’t happy but go along. To find the location of the missile control, Optimus opens a secret primal archive for the first time in his tenure. Therein are many, many functionist reports on secret projects, leading to the warnings I give you, which they have time to read right before Soundwave leaves, Megatron arrives and everything goes to shit! :D
I won’t spoil the rest besides that it has a hopeful ending, but this fic really shines in the world building moments centering around Soundwave’s early life, Sentinel’s plans and the whole gory functionist shit. Optimus knows some of it, vaguely, but a lot of these informations were deliberately withheld, leaving him in a troubled emotional state in the second half. Also, there is the cutest scene where a baby Ratbat bonks into Optimus while in flight and he gives him cuddles while Soundwave is doing the equivalent of parental panic attack in the background.
