Weekly Fanwork recs #34
Nov. 13th, 2021 04:34 pmI started tracking recs roughly a year ago - as evidenced by the numbers, I missed nearly 20, but it's still going, so that's something. It's still more Star Wars recs with the bulk being QuiObi, the pairing I liked as a teen looking back on the first prequel. And some Soulmate Goose of Enforcement crack.
Star Wars
Prequel Trilogy
Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Any Less Than Mine by sanerontheinside. Rated M, CNTW, Passive Suicidal Behaviour, ~3.5k.
Qui-Gon Lives AU where Obi-Wan and his former master have been pining for each other and finally spill the beans as they fight about who exactly is allowed to sacrifice themself for the other one. Classic trope I am a sucker for.
Seventh Gate of Chaos by sanerontheinside. Rated M, CNTW, ~2.5k.
Obi-Wan dies in the reactor and Qui-Gon keeps up regular visits when he is near there. Something listens and answers him eventually. Ending isn't exactly horror, but hints of danger a bit.
The Merits of Instinct by Firondoiel. Rated E, No Warnings, Omegaverse, ~8k.
Smut that comes from having to conform to a society where omegas are considered lesser. That diplomatic assignment is temporary, but leads to enjoyable things nonetheless. Some possessive Qui-Gon here!
The Etiquette of Affections and Domesticities by Firondoiel. Rated M, No Warnings, Omegaverse, ~5k.
Some inventive courtship rituals in an omegaverse setting where an oblivious Obi-Wan catches on a little late.
These Circles (They're Leading Me Back To You) by Meggory. Rated E, CNTW, ~30.5k.
A groundhog day loop where Qui-Gon keeps oversleeping and ends the day with Obi-Wan's shuttle getting blown up. At some point Qui-Gon decides even if he can't break the loop this time, at least he can make Obi-Wan a bit happier and healthier for a few hours.
The Mountains Said I Would Find You Here by Meggory. Rated M, CNTW, ~5.5k.
Qui-Gon is sent to the future after the rise of the Empire and decides to find Obi-Wan. The "twist" here is that it's not Qui-Gon as he died but as a young knight, leaving Obi-Wan conflicted on how to interact. This follows the canonical events in ANH and has a bittersweet ending.
Constellations Reveal Themselves One Star at a Time by Meggory. Rated E, No Warnings, ~35.5k.
Quinlan ropes Obi-Wan into a mission without telling him important details. It's long term undercover with Qui-Gon, where he has to pretend to be married to the other. After the end of his apprenticeship, his relationship to Qui-Gon has been nearly non-existent, both avoiding each other. So they have to spend time together and may have the chance to fix it or become even closer. Smoopy with some plot, since they are investigating the disappearance of two previous undercover Jedi.
Catfish by Chibiobiwan. Rated G, No Warnings, Modern AU, ~4.5k.
Qui-Gon is a celebrity and Obi-Wan matches him on tinder. Obi-Wan doubts these claims, but keeps falling in love with his "catfish" anyway. Simple and cute.
What Dreams May Come by Chibiobiwan. Rated M, Major Character Death, ~28.5k.
After death, Qui-Gon tries to return to Obi-Wan's aid via the Way of the Whills. His instructor is a certain "Ben", leading him into the trials even as Qui-Gon only focuses on his padawan. This has a spiritual paradox, of course, and features a bit more symbolism and unreal experiences. Nicely done with a good pay-off.
Free by FayJay. Rated T, No Warnings, ~2k.
Dialogue only, an affectionate riff on the trope of "character gets kidnapped and brainwashed into a sex slave". Obi-Wan has successfully rescued Qui-Gon and now needs to bring him back home to the temple. Qui-Gon isn't really helpful.
This is Master Obi-Wan Kenobi by hellokatey. Rated T, No Warnings, ~12k.
As a padawan, Obi-Wan has a force vision of the holocron warning he sends out when the Jedi temple burns. This leads to whump and Qui-Gon worrying about him.
Lack of Answers by LaceFedora. Rated E, CNTW, ~6k.
Young Knight Qui-Gon meets injured Jedi Master "Ben Lars" in the Lothal temple. In short: time-travel smut but with some soft feelings mixed in.
Crystallize by torch. No Rating, No Warnings, ~16.5k.
This is a really great atmospheric story and reminded me of Left Hand of Darkness a bit. I don't say this lightly. Qui-Gon and Padawan Obi-Wan are stationed on a winter planet with the task to stand guard for an allied alien race while they sleep. There is no reason to expect an enemy and none materialises, so this posting is more about patience and routine even if actions might seem futile or unimportant. A meditative mood leads to feelings realisation and the path Qui-Gon takes is very interesting.
Meet another by torch. Rated E, CNTW, slavery, consent issues, ~66.5k.
An elaborate Phantom Menace AU, actually. Instead of getting picked by Qui-Gon on Bandomeer, Obi-Wan has another teacher. As a relative new Knight, he is tasked with negotiating with Jabba, when Qui-Gon, who has been presumed missing for years, is assigned as a personal slave to him for his stay. Obi-Wan starts planning how to get Qui-Gon out of slavery, but Qui-Gon refuses to leave without freeing two fellow slaves named Skywalker he met while being owned by Jabba. It's a big headache for Obi-Wan overall. Then about halfway through, Xanatos crashes the party! :D
As mentioned, it's a pretty solid AU set-up. The consent issues are that Qui-Gon is forced to pleasure Obi-Wan on Jabba's command and Obi-Wan has to go along or risk getting Qui-Gon punished. Not ideal, but both don't mind.
Offset bx deviantaccumulation. Rated M, Graphic Violence, ~64.5k.
Another AU where Qui-Gon gets to meet General Kenobi of the clone wars. As he gets captured on Geonosis, Dooku makes a pitch to have Obi-Wan join him, including tempting him with Qui-Gon, who he has had preserved in coma all this time. Obi-Wan doesn't bite and liberates Qui-Gon, who doesn't recognize him. Only Qui-Gon makes it off Geonosis and has eventually go back for Obi-Wan. I do enjoy reading about the older, more self-assured Obi-Wan interacting with Qui-Gon, since the lesson of the former master have fully bloomed in a way Qui-Gon didn't get to see before Naboo, partly because he cast his own long shadow over Obi-Wan. The identity porn in this is wonderful food and I recommend this fic on that alone.
In Truth by antheiasilva. Rated E, No Warnings, ~19k.
On what is essentially space ancient Greece, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon partake in truth serum without their knowledge. This is a new look at truth serum leading to confession of pining. That happens, but the way there is unique. Obi-Wan is in fact actually immune, giving him a slight advantage with secrecy. Meanwhile Qui-Gon gets a wake-up call about lying to himself from the serum. This elevates what could have been a by the numbers fic to something more notable. Also, some unabashed sexual relations outside the main pairing, all healthy.
Reverberations by Hedge_Backwards. Rated E, CNTW, ~31k.
Following rejection to be taken on as a Padawan by Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan is embittered towards the man. Until the clone wars, where he inadvertently travels in time and ends up stranded with a young Knight Qui-Gon. I did enjoy the paradox of the time-loop and the whole perspective of Obi-Wan is carefully constructed. We see his interactions with Qui-Gon beforehand, where he can't understand the pull towards him in the Force and Qui-Gon, who for once has excellent reasons, nope-ing out of teaching. Qui-Gon's hope and patience paying off in the end are very rewarding, truly.
The Jedi Knight's guide to keeping houseplants alive (and impressing your crush) by Hedge_Backwards. Rated T, CNTW, ~7k.
Obi-Wan takes care of Qui-Gon's plants while he is on a mission. Fluffy get together with one opinionated plant.
Gloved Lightning by Temve. Rated E, CNTW, Non-Con, Electro Stimulation, ~2.5k.
Padawan Qui-Gon gets waylaid by Sith Obi-Wan and endures electrostimulation with Sith lightning. Overall seduction is successful, but the non-con is clear at the beginning. Some of the best description of the kink I have seen and does hit the strange non-pain well.
Feast by Temve. Rated T, No Warnings, Armpit Kink, ~1.5k.
Sweat kink but incredibly sensual and elegant? Fandom never fails to amaze me at how people can talk me into all sorts of kinks. Obi-Wan likes Qui-Gon's sweat and somehow it doesn't feel musky.
Rumour Mill by celedan. Rated E, No Warnings, ~7k.
Obi-Wan becomes a central subject of interest for crushes after killing a Sith and a rumour develops about him and his master. Straight forward getting together that is sweet.
Let the Only Sound Be the Overflow by thesadchicken. Rated E, No Warnings, ~12k.
A bit hard to describe, Obi-Wan always wants to know more about his rather taciturn master. Qui-Gon slowly makes himself open up more as they get together.
Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Hard Truths by wanderingjedihistorian. Rated T, No Warnings, ~3k.
More Launch Sequence aka young Obi-Wan with daddy and armor kink has one night stand with Jango before they realize who the other one is. When last left, they were teaming up against Death Watch, this time it's a bigger test: Obi-Wan talking Jango into reconsidering not being Mand'alor.
Clone Wars
Cody/Obi-Wan Kenobi
Temptations of Trouble Yet to Come by shipNslash. Rated T, No Warnings, ~12.5k.
5+1 bad habits Cody learns from Obi-Wan, one good habit Obi-Wan learns. The portrayal of Obi-Wan being a bit hedonistic and coping with stress imperfectly is something I miss from other fics that feature an anxious Obi-Wan. The last chapter was the one that really shone for me - Obi-Wan's initial reaction to Cody's PDA is explosive yet not unrealistic. It absolutely breaks my heart in the moment, but it's worth it to see him and Cody talk about it and deal with their differences as a committed couple. Fanfic is often a vehicle for wish fulfillment, so this is welcome change.
The Games the Gods Play by kj_feybarn. Rated G, No Warnings, ~6.5k.
Greek myth au, featuring Obi-Wan as Ariadne who gets ditched on a random island by Theseus on the way back to Athens after the minotaur business and Cody as a war god in disguise as a mortal, ditched there by his brothers so he finally talks to his crush. I am a sucker for fairy tale and myths, I appreciated that this is more of a deep cut and the roles picked here are very fitting.
Breaking Point by thevalesofanduin. Rated T, No Warnings, ~1k.
Short fic of the genre Obi-Wan becomes a Sith thanks to all the child murder on Kamino. Now featuring extra dead Kaminoans.
To have and behold by galateaGalvanized. Rated E, CNTW, Slavery, ~11.5k.
Cody and Obi-Wan undercover with the Zygerrian Queen as Obi-Wan poses as a pleasure slave. The plan goes out of the window fast and they end up having to have public sex. The whole fic absolutely destroys emotions in the best way. Both of them are pining for the other, as is given. Cody tries desperately to keep a hold on his jealousy. Obi-Wan just decided to not tell Cody that his mission plan included fucking the guards because he wants to protect him. They are both train wrecks in their own way. The public sex isn't ideal, but they do get it together emotionally and in their communication at least.
more than mine you will be by QuickSilverFox3. Rated T, No Warnings, ~2.5k.
Cody is actually a fae, hiding between a lot of other identical clones. He comes across as very other to Obi-Wan but is still fond and slightly possessive of his general.
Rebels
Chopper vs. the Angry Soulmate Goose by bedlamsbard, isweedan, reena_jenkins. Kanan Jarrus/Hera Syndulla, Rated T, No Warnings, Not!fic, ~1.5k.
A lot of people on twitter got introduced to the wonderful trope called The Soulmate Goose of Enforcement. Soulmates are chased to their mates by a goose in this style of fic. The hard thing is surviving the goose. This is Kanan & Hera have to deal with a goose onboard of a very cramped space ship while Chopper is wreaking havoc. Highly entertaining and I love the twist of the goose being a Jedi secret, making everything much more confusing for Hera.
Original Trilogy
Double Agent Vader by Fialleril. Gen, Leia Organa & Anakin Skywalker, Rated T, No Warnings, ~91k.
This is one of the big fic series I was tangentially aware of even before this dive into Star Wars. I don't doubt that it has been recced everywhere it can be. The premise: Vader turns Double Agent and his handler in the Senate is Leia. What makes this AU so good: The Tatooine Slave Mythology. Told as stories about Ekkreth freeing slaves these double as instructions on how to become free in body and spirit for the slaves. I don't know if they are patterned after real folk stories which I don't know, but they feel true in a deeper sense. Against this background, Anakin's character development, actions and efforts are posed masterfully. What else can I say? Read it if you like Gen fic and mythology.
Mandalorian
Din Djarin/Boba Fett
stalker's tango by crashing_meteors. Rated T, CNTW, No Warnings, ~7k.
Two time lines in juxtaposition with each other: Boba and Din growing closer post-season two and a past where Boba tangled with a bothersome Mandalorian bounty for a while. Naturally, that's Din. A nice contrast between rivals and friends both becoming lovers.
you can scorch the metal (you can even melt the glass) by control. Boba Fett & Jaster Mereel, Rated G, No Warnings, ~7k.
Force Ghost Jaster talks to grandchild Boba after the Sarlacc. The familiar relationship is nice and it's just very comforting to have Jaster approve of Din. Part two has the Darksaber voice some opinions as well.
Just For Now by Mandaloria593. Rated T, No Warnings, ~3.5k.
What is says on the tin: "Din invites Boba to accompany him on a bounty hunt. It's a date in disguise." Fluff of the Mandalorian variety.
lay me down, lay me low by canistakahari. Rated E, No Warnings, D/s, Mild Pet Play, Kink Discovery, ~7k.
Boba and Din both kinking on Din being denigrated as Boba's dog by outsiders, which leads to porn. The pet play is mostly mild and more focus is spend on the humiliation. It's great porn!
A Century of Lonely Nights by Hammocker. Rated E, Crack, ~12k.
First of all kudos to this fic for introducing me to the Star Wars Kinect Galactic Dance Off game that featured some of the most unapologetic cheesy covers ever. Please feast your eyes and ears on "Blasterproof", for example. This is crack based on Boba's levels and animations, because he is one of the opponents. Amazing all around.
The Unquiet series by musicmillenia. Rated T/M, Graphic Violence & No Warnings, ~11.5k.
Din Djarin and Boba are actually both different kinds of Eldritch horrors, keeping up appearances as being humans. Jedi are mortals that can actually see them. This is both excellent cosmic horror where nothing can be comprehended and super fluffy. Boba lets Din feel normal for the first time ever maybe. Grogu knows exactly what his buir is and relishes in it. There are pictures of horrorterror Boba giving him a ride. This is 100% my taste in media, wonderful work.
Ib'tuur Jatne Tuur Ash'ad Cuyir Mand'alor (Today is a Good Day for Someone Else to be Mand'alor) by LiraBuswavi. Rated T, No Warnings, ~2.5k.
Young bounty hunter Din decides to throw the Darksaber he recovered at the first Mandalorian he can find. This happens to be Boba Fett, grandkid of still current Mand'alor Jaster. Yeah, it's pretty much a cracky meet cute featuring Din who doesn't know anything about the star wars. Very endearing.
Din Djarin/Boba Fett/Luke Skywalker
Taste Your Beating Heart by Purplesauris. Rated E, Graphic Violence, ~51k.
Vampire Luke and sort of vampire hunter Din get thrown into a cell together. After letting Luke feed, they escape and take up residence in Boba's place. The first chapters are earn the Graphic Violence thanks to the captivity, but Din and Luke are strangely trusting right from the start and fall into each other. It's a joy to see Boba slowly get integrated into this. Purplesauris writes these three as a lovely poly pairing.
Let the River Run Wild by Purplesauris. Rated T, No Warnings, Modern AU, ~13k.
Sequel to Pina Colada AU, where polyamorous couple Din & Boba both accidentally dated the same twink. Luke has been designing tattoos for all of them and this follows Boba's pov on it, from being afraid of needles to getting comfortable and finally getting his own tattoo. Sweet fluff with flowery tattoos.
Din Djarin/Luke Skywalker
through power, there is victory by EmilianaDarling. Rated T, No Warnings, Imperial Luke, ~8k.
This Luke is dark and ruthless, pushing all the levers he needs to have Din dance for him. In short, threatening Grogu. Nothing explicit happens, but the psychological horror is there and the outlook dark.
Dear Fellow Traveler by TheSexierEvilerCora. Rated E, Graphic Violence, ~10k.
While Luke is infiltrating an remnant empire cruiser to steal back his lightsaber, someone is slowly picking off the lower crew members one by one. The atmosphere in this is amazing, it feels like the original Alien at times, claustrophobic and tense. Luke and Din play a cat and mouse game as they both try to get to their objectives. After a certain point, the whole situation breaks and it becomes a scramble for who gets there faster. A final plus: helmet and gloves stay on for the sex.
Din Djarin/Others
Different Explorations by QuillTea. Din Djarin/Paz Vizsla, Rated E, No Warnings, Oviposition, Eggpreg, Body Modification, Breeding Kink, ~27.5k.
It's been a while since the last ovi fic, so it's time for it again! Paz with nice, big tentacles that result in some extreme kinky scenarios, including kids. I enjoyed that thoroughly.
Shadows in a cave by bluebells. Din Djarin/Monster, Din Djarin/Boba Fett/Paz Viszla, Rated E, Rape/Non-Con, Tentacles, Omegaverse, Cervix Penetration, Breeding, Oviposition, ~4k.
After the end of season two, omega Din still hasn't confessed to his mates that he took of his helmet and broke with the Way. When his heat hits, he goes to hide in shame under the palace and gets caught by a mind-breaking tentacle thing. This is for the people that like their oviposition to be very dark. A rescue comes at the end, when it's arguably all over.
Something new, something borrowed, something blue by bluebells. Din Djarin/BobaFett/Paz Viszla, Rated E, No Warnings, Cervix penetration, D/s, ~4.5k.
This fic is unfairly hot. Paz finds Din willingly chained to Boba's throne via insert into his cervix. He gets to play with him as Boba supervises. Pretty extreme play and written really compelling.
Overwatch
Play Testing by robocryptid. Fareeha "Pharah" Amari/Satya "Symmetra" Vaswani, Rated E, No Warnings, ~1k.
Ayy, some femslash and Overwatch again. A cute pwp of Fareeha helping Satya test sex toys she designs, with some actual measuring of pleasure, of course!
interstitial by crookedfingers. R76, Rated E, No Warnings, Body Horror, ~4k.
First off, anything from crookedfingers gets a rec from me, they are that good. This is some fantastic Reaper/Soldier76 body horror porn. I love the exploration of Gabe's body being messed up and Jack is reckless enough to stick his dick into a bunch of pins and needles shadows just to try for his ex. Truly a wrecked long-term couple dynamic.
Castlevania
An Avian Aggravation by mikkimouse. Alucard/Trevor Belmont, Rated T, No Warnings, ~4k.
I don't even go there, but more Soulmate Goose of Enforcement terrorizing innocent vampires.
