Books I read recently
Sep. 8th, 2021 09:40 pm..Or rather finished the last two days.
As observant readers may have noticed, I have been reading the Secret History of the Mongols for class in parts and read it in full translated just because. I am a sucker for ancient literature and even though this is a chronicle, I expected more supernatural. It had some, especially in the beginning, but over all not as much, possibly because it was written pretty close after Ghengis Khan's death. It's probably useful for some historical comparisons, but not what I craved. Oh well. The translation I had was by Manfred Taube and included nice additional material in the form of maps and a genealogy, because I sure couldn't follow that in print. @.@ If you want to read it, I think this is a good one.
Caught up with Rivers of London by finishing Tales from the Folly and the Octoberman. Both were mostly adjacent stories to the main narrative. Not bad, but I do admit to enjoying Octoberman more. Possibly because it's nice to be catered to and the research shone through. I did enjoy Tobias being pessimistic though. People criticised that his voice wasn't distinctive from Peter's, which isn't wrong, but I think it could be great with more time to evolve.
